Stop Rushing Through Life

Your Journey, Your Pace: How to Stop Rushing Through Life and Start Savoring It

You ever catch yourself moving so fast through the day you forget what you even ate for lunch? Or you knock out a whole to-do list but still feel like you didn’t really live the day? Sis, you’re not alone.

We’ve been conditioned to equate productivity with worth—and women of color especially know what it means to carry everyone and everything. But now? Now is the season to pause, reset, and reclaim the art of being instead of just doing.

Here’s how to slow down and actually enjoy this journey you’re on—even if life is still moving at full speed around you.

1. Stop Asking “What’s Next?” and Ask “What’s Here?”

There will always be another deadline, another errand, another email. But presence is a gift you can only unwrap in the moment. Pause. Look around. Feel the breeze. Taste your tea. Savor the now—it’s the only place peace lives.

2. Release the Timeline You Never Agreed To

Who said you had to have everything figured out by 30, 40, or even 60? That’s someone else’s voice—not yours. Your journey is yours alone. You can take detours. You can change your mind. You can rest. You are not behind—you’re becoming.

3. Make Space for Small Joys

Joy doesn’t have to be big or flashy. It can be sipping your favorite tea with no one talking to you for five whole minutes. It can be dancing in your kitchen to old-school Mary J. It can be a walk where you don’t count steps—just notice the trees. These moments matter. Don’t rush past them.

4. Recognize When “Busy” Is Just a Distraction

Sometimes we move fast because it’s easier than feeling our feelings. Be honest: is the rush keeping you from facing something? If so, it’s okay. You can slow down gently. You can sit with the discomfort and not fall apart. Stillness is not weakness—it’s strength.

5. Celebrate the Detours

Life doesn’t follow a straight path. And often, the detours are where the wisdom is. The job that didn’t work out. The relationship that shifted. The time you had to start over. Don’t just tolerate the detour—learn from it. Your journey is being handcrafted in real time.

The Takeaway

You don’t have to hustle for your worth. You’re allowed to live at your own pace. Breathe deeper. Laugh longer. Sit still sometimes. Savor the season you’re in—this moment is part of the masterpiece.
